Political signs banned in right of way

The Village of Batavia does not permit signs in the right of way of roads and highways.

The ban includes political campaign signs in rights of way. While recognizing rights of free speech and respecting the importance of campaigns, the village zoning code restricts placement. Signs on private property are not affected by the rules. The rules apply uniformly to all candidates.

The Village of Batavia has notified candidates and campaigns where village zoning officials know of offending signs and will remove signs that remain more than 48 hours after notification. Most of the candidates have cooperated.
