Council moves meetings to second Mondays

The Batavia Village Council will meet at 7 p.m. the second Monday of each month, instead of the first Monday.

Mayor John Thebout said meeting the second Monday will provide time for Fiscal Officer John Waite to prepare financial reports for the previous month. The village posts balances at the end of each month and reports the monthly revenue and disbursements. When the last day of a month falls on Friday, Saturday or Sunday, preparing reports in time for the Monday meeting is difficult, and when the last day is on Monday, preparing reports in time for the meeting is impossible. Only three of each seven months allow adequate time to close the books and make reports. Meeting the second Monday will solve that problem.

The next Village Council meeting will be January 11.

Beginning in Beginning, the Village Council's Finance Committee will meet at 6 p.m. the fourth Thursday of each month, instead of 1:30 p.m. the fourth Monday. The Thursday evening time will allow Council members and other Batavia residents who work during the day to attend.
