Work on water mains

JNT Excavating, LLC, of Independence, Ky., is completing work on replacing water  mains on parts of four Batavia streets. Mains are in place, and the contractor is connecting the final individual service lines. The tie-ins are scheduled for completion in February. Blacktopping must wait for spring.

The project is replacing 2,146 feet of Cast Iron Water Main in the downtown area of Batavia:

North Street, Riverside Drive to Market Street
Market Street, Main Street to North Street
Main Street, Fifth Street to Sixth Street
Sixth Street, Main Street to North Street

JNT was low among eight bidders with a price of $337,624. The engineer’s estimate for the work was $410,000.

The project is part of a commitment by the village to improve the water system in preparation for mergers with the Clermont County Water Resources Department. Clermont County now operates and maintains the village water and sewer utilities, and the merger will reduce costs and mean lower bills to customers. The village is replacing 4” cast iron mains that date to 1935 and are occluded by rust.

The village is making other improvements that will improve reliability and water pressure to hilltops.
