Meet the Chief

 Chief Jim Young started his law enforcement career in 1987. After holding part time positions in several smaller agencies he was hired by the Miami Township Police Department in January 1991. In July 1996 he was promoted to Road Patrol Sergeant. While serving in this capacity he supervised multiple patrol officers handling the day to day calls for service to citizens of Miami Township. In 2013 he was chosen to be the Support Services Administrative Sergeant. In this position he managed many different components of Police Operations that included the Motor Unit, Traffic Safety Unit, the SRO and DARE programs in Milford Schools, Citizens Police Academy, Crime Prevention Bureau, Event Planning, State of Ohio grant writing and administration, and all fleet and facilities management initiatives. After serving Miami Township for 25 years Jim retired and accepted a position as Administrative Lieutenant for the Owensville Police Department where he served until he was appointed as the Chief of Police for the Batavia Police Department in March 2019.

 

In addition to his 30+ years of police experience, Chief Young holds several advanced education degrees including a Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice, and a Masters Degree in Strategic Leadership. He is also a graduate of Northwestern University School of Police Staff and Command. Chief Young has extensive experience in many different aspects of the law enforcement profession including uniformed patrol operations, budgeting, policy and resource management.
